Celebrating 30 years of Service

NCS celebrated its 30-year anniversary on December the 2nd. In actuality, the beginnings of NCS extend further back when a group of local people got together to find a way to respond to the many needs and difficulties arising from the impact of poverty and social neglect that their community endured daily. Additionally, then, the terrible tragedy of the fire in the Stardust nightclub cast a deep and heavy shroud over the entire locality. To that end, these good people set in motion a project that resulted in the formation of ‘Northside Counselling Service’, a local free/donation based professional mental health organisation. In that time Northside Counselling Service has delivered over 100,000 counselling hours. Furthermore, the service has trained c.200 people, the majority of them from the local area, to become professionally qualified and accredited counsellors. NCS has done this on a shoestring, relying on thousands of voluntary hours and goodwill.  Today we maintain this work through our funders Tusla, the HSE, and generous contributions of time and money from local people; all of this is supported by a very small dedicated part-time staff team, and 50 devoted and exceptional professional counsellors.

We are proud and honoured to have been of service to you all.
